Low Fat Diet - Ornish Diet:
The Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet is, quite simply, the most powerful diet on the planet right now.
So far the studies are showing that The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet has the almost magical power of reversing
heart disease and prostate cancer with no known downsides. If you have
erectile dysfunction (which is almost always a sign of cardiovascular issues),
high blood pressure, poor lipid profiles or heart disease, I highly recommend
that you consider the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet.
Really the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
might better be called The Last Chance Diet as it
offers a final chance for healing to all those who have destroyed their health
through a Western diet and lifestyle. (One diet that has done poorly in the
research is the
Atkins (Low Carb) Diet. Read about it here.)
NOTE: All the signs point to the Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet being very good
for erectile strength. Read this link on
How the Low Fat Diet is Good for
your Sex Life.
By the way, I should mention that the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet's claim to fame is that it
actually has been shown to reverse arteriosclerosis. Yes, that's right:
participants on the Ornish Diet actually saw the plaque in their arteries
decrease. Prior to this, scientists thought that reversing heart disease
was impossible, but the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
changed all of that.

Interestingly enough, Big Pharma tried to do the same thing by throwing drugs at
the situation and have had very limited success. Astra-Zeneca, for
example, funded a study on patients with high C-Reactive, i.e. CRP levels where
patients were given a placebo or a huge dose of their drug called Crestor, or
rosuvastatin by its generic name, and did successfully reverse heart disease.
However, this was a very high dose and the drug already had significant side
effects. (Google on rosuvastatin and JUPITER for more details.)
In other words, Big Pharma has pulled out their biggest guns and still cannot do
what the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet does. The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet, as you will see below, does
much, much more than just simple reduction of arterial plaque. And it has
no long term side effects!
The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet is a radical change for most of us struggling with heart disease,
Erectile Dysfunction, Metabolic Disorder, pre-diabetes, high blood pressure and
other middle aged maladies. But the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet is Your Medicine and
that's how you need to look at it. Besides cleaning out your arteries, the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet very significantly lowers high blood pressure. One study of
diabetics (half with heart disease) found that their average blood pressure was
a high 136/79 and fell to an average of 124/72 on the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet. This is
a huge drop and put people with very serious medical condition(s) just a hair
above normal! Similar results were found in individuals with '1,245 participants
who had coronary heart disease (55%), diabetes, and/or at least three other risk
factors (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and obesity)'. [2] High blood pressure is
a huge risk factor for both erectile dysfunction and stroke. (You

A Low Fat (Ornish) Diet has been found to boost mood in multiple
studies. For more information, read this link on How to Control Appetite
and Boost Mood through Diet.
Your family and friends all love you, but they also have almost killed you with
their love. Well, now it's time to pull away from the crowd with the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet. Do you really want
to live like them? Isn't it better to be a little lonely at times than to
live a life full of angioplasties, stints, prostate cancer, strokes and limp sex?
What do I push on this site? The primary two things are Exercise and a Low
Fat (or Ornish) Diet. (A Mediterranean Diet is an excellent, but slightly
inferior in my opinion, alternative to the Low Fat Diet.) Now,
interestingly enough, researchers studied just this scenario: they put
patients with mild heart problems - and most people on a Western Diet would be
in that category! - on a Low Fat Diet (not as strict as the Ornish however)
along with intense exercise. What did they find? You guessed it:
drastically reduced heart disease and dramatically reduced injury to the
arterial walls. [3] This stuff works.
I know some of you may be thinking that you could never live without fat in your
diet. Well, actually you will be surprised how your palate will change if
you just give it a couple of weeks. My experience, and Dr. Ornish echoes
this, is that it's best to go "cold turkey". In other words, if you try to
go pretty-doggone-Low-Fat but still not-quite-Low-Fat, the desire for fatty
foods does not go away, because you are still occasionally tasting and sampling
your old Western Diet.

What is better and easier in the long run is to just go completely on a
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet.
You will probably have a week or two where you find your self craving meat,
butter, oils, cheese - all those things - but then the desire will suddenly
disappear. I remember when I first started a
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet, if I smelled a
steak or something grilled, it would just about kill me - I really think I would
have stolen a drumstick right out of a baby's hand if no one was looking in
those moments. However, it just took a little time and soon all of the stuff I
grew up on actually sounded greasy and heavy. So, again, give your palate
time to adjust and be patient: it's well-worth the wait.

Another objection that you may have is: will I get enough fat in my diet on
a
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet? The answer, of course, is yes. Remember that if you
eat an Ornish, you will get about 10% of your calories from fat. If, for
example, you eat 2,700 calories in a day on an
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet, that is 270 fat
calories, which would be almost exactly 30 g of fat. And that is more than
enough for your body's basic requirements.
By the way, here are some of the nice undocumented advantages of the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
that most people will experience in the short term:
1. In a few weeks or months, you will find that the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
gives you
back your ability to think and learn
and remember. Some memory supplements, such as
Gingko Biloba, work by improving blood flow to the brain. As the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
clears out your arteries and blood vessels, you will find that you can think
more clearly. I have thought to myself, 'I remember what it is like to be
a kid again'.
2. Your skin may initially dry out on the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
as your body adjusts, but give it a few
weeks and you will find that your
Skin smooths out significantly and feels as
soft as a babies' backside.
3. You must give this a few weeks or even months, but you will experience
increased morning erections as your endothelial function is restored by the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet, your veins are literally cleaned out and your blood pressure is
lowered.
4. The Ornish Diet will lean you out. I found that the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
melted off some extra fat on my abs and, as I write this, for the first time
since college, I am headed toward a six pack on my abs. The Ornish Diet
gives you that lean, muscular fit look that you had back in your early twenties.
And, by the way, that's what most women want! I talk about this more in my
link on
Muscle Madness.
5. After years and years of struggling, you will find yourself saying and
thinking, 'I forgot what it was like to feel young'. This is
undocumented,
but the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
will help you get some of those old rushes back, those old highs.
6. The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
is so powerful that you will be able to throw away most of
your supplements. Some of you are dropping a hundred bucks or more a
month. You'll be able to completely eliminate almost all of that.
7. The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
can be a great money saver. Let's face it:
the most expensive items in your diet are, by far, the chicken, beef and pork.
Brown rice, beans, wheat - these are pennies on the dollar relatively speaking.
Are you ready? Here are the details for those of you willing to pay
the price to get your youth back:
The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
is first and foremost a low fat diet. It requires you to have
10% or less of your calories from fat. What does that mean practically? It
means that you will be eating only grains, non-fat milk, legumes, beans, egg
whites, vegetables and fruit with NO meat or added oils of any sort. (You can
fry something using oil, but no added oil to what you
prepare is allowed.)
The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet is primarily a vegetarian diet. It's not about
tree hugging or anything else: it's about saving your health. In
fact, really it's really just vegetarian because many vegetarian foods are low
fat. For example, high fat vegetarian foods are not allowed.
Furthermore, the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
allows moderate amounts of egg whites and non-fat dairy, but no
other animal products are allowed.
The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
does not allow caffeine.
The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
does allow moderate Alcohol consumption, i.e. 1-2 drinks per
day.
The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
includes daily exercise of at least a half hour per day.
This can even be walking.
Nuts, peanuts and seeds are not allowed. Again, the goal is total fat
calories less than ten percent.
Fish is not allowed on the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet. However,
Fish Oil is acceptable
and even encouraged.
Margarines, butters, lards and oils are not allowed including Olive Oil
(except to fry in).
The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
allows for some refined sugars for taste. In other words, you
can put some sugar on your oatmeal, but don't go crazy! The lion's share of your
grains should be whole grains.
The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
is also supposed to include a stress mangement technique as
well. Ornish considers stress a major source of health issues and insists
that people learn to manage it better.
I have read that the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
to Reverse Prostate Cancer also included selenium, vitamin C and vitamin E supplements. However, I have not been
able to verify that 'officially'.
Ornish has received some heat because he eliminates nuts, fish, olive oil and
other items that many researchers consider heart healthy. But the fact is
this: Ornish's Diet works..
The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
will has been shown to reverse heart disease and cancer. Think
about that: there are not pills or drugs that can do that! If there was a
compound that could actually reverse heart disease, for example, every drug
company on planet earth would be fighting for it and spending billions
advertising for it. (The statins will reduce arteriosclerosis, but only if taken
in very massive doses.)
And, to his credit, Dr.Ornish is also an excellent, down-to-earth writer. I
would recommend either of his two books as an easy read that will probably save
your life: Dr. Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease and Eat More, Weight
Less. Eat More, Weigh Less is particularly important if you want good, low fat
recipes. Dr. Ornish collaborated with a French chef for this book and
close to two thirds of the book are delicious dishes and food preparation ideas
for low fat cuisine.
So are there any cautions? Just a few and I include them below:
CAUTION: If you have
Low Testosterone, the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
may lower it
further. However, if you have heart disease and erectile dysfunction, then
you should - ask your doctor first of course! - go on the Ornish Diet anyway to
partially reverse your problems. Remember that erectile dysfunction is
primarily a cardiovascular problem. The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
will help the
great majority of guys out there with this issue. But my point is that if
you have low testosterone, you need to monitor it and you may even need to go on
HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). If that is the
case, then keep in mind you get all the advantages of strong testosterone - woo
hoo! - coupled with a diet that is cleaning out your arteries and improving your
erectile dysfunction by the hour!
CAUTION: The
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
will actually give you more energy, but
even so (especially for those in middle aged and beyond), you may want to
supplement with some CoQ10. The Ornish Diet very significantly lowers
cholesterol and CoQ10 is manufactured by your body in the cholesterol metabolic
pathway. Your CoQ10 levels fall off significantly with aging anyway.
(CoQ10 has an excellent safey record: it is one of the few supplements
where I can say that I know of no downside and only many strong, positive
advantages.) You may also want to supplement with a little - and I
emphasize a little - zinc for the same reason.
CAUTION: As I mentioned above, your skin may initially (in the first
week) dry out on the
Low Fat (or Ornish) Diet
. Remember that your body is used to being
bathed in saturated and other fats and so you have to give it a chance to
adjust.
