I refuse to give up beef :)

But I will check this out. There's a power-lifter in our gym who is vegan and he looks terrific.

I have a nagging suspicion that vegan would be better for me, since I have heart disease.  But, yeah, giving up the meat is difficult.  I'm quite sure you can achieve a fully healthy diet being vegan.  The holdup for me is just that I would need to learn a new repertoire of cooking.  Your taste buds adapt within 60-90 days to any new diet you do.  So I'm not worried about missing any foods.  I just don't wanna have to learn a new food prep scheme.

Anyway, I usually learn some good nuggets from these summits.

Thx Joe Sixpack!  Much appreciated.

Guys, almost everyone that ends up vegan starts out flexitarian (90% plant; 10% animal) or vegetarian.  It's not an easy transition to do "cold turkey" - no pun intended - because we become so addicted to food due to the research I mention on here often.  Most of us that are interested in going vegan for sustainability and ethical considerations, on a practical level, will slowly phase out meat and then eventually dairy and eggs.  But, from a purely health standpoint, you'll get most of the benefits just by going flexitarian.  Going to 90% plant will significantly improve your nitric oxide profile - assume you eat reasonable whole plant foods - and NO is just as important as testosterone - even moreso to your arteries (and, therefore, penis).

Yeah, I am finding that this one is not as well organized as most of the others I have seen.  I got an email today that Dr. Kahn the cardiologist was on.  Sadly, the host didn't didn't ask very good questions of him.

I am listening to Dr. Joel Furhman right now.  Great stuff.  Hope everyone has signed up for this.

Vegans (like myself) pay attention:

Dr. Fuhrman said a recent patient lab results found that one third of his vegan clients had very low omega-3 levels.  (I am still saying vegan but need to measure that.)

Dr. Campbell's interview is interesting for those attending this summit.  He talks about how he got started by showing that you could in some cases turn on cancer with animal protein and turn it off with plant based proteins.

Furhman's awesome.  He knocks it out of the park in every interview I hear with him.

2 take-aways that I thought were interesting.
** He doesn't care about macro nutrient ratios.  He cares about nutrient levels.  His ideal diet is not low fat.  He said some people need to eat a lot of nuts if they have high caloric demands on their bodies.  These people may get up to 50% of their cals from fat.  Not animal fat or fat from oils tho.  He is against both of those.

** He is not interested in vegan purity.  There are a few people who will need animal products in their diets, likely very old or very young people.  In these cases, if they have to have a few ounces of animal foods in their diets, so be it.  He is interested in optimal health,, not idealistic purity.

Good call,  I would see it, but really, I'm not sure there is any point to it?
I know a plant based diet is great/better than eating meat/man made foods  for LOTS of reasons,

I refuse to give up beef :)

what is the diff between vegan and a vegtarian in terms of what you eat?
is it just eggwhites/dairy that vegans dont eat and a veggie might?

I eat eggwhites(lysine/proline for pauling therapy)

Hey guys,
There's a documentary on Netflix called Knives over Forks which explains the whole Plant based eating theory. It explains how we've been told and brainwashed to eat meat as protein....even eggs and chicken which I truly love. But the people who eat like this, on this show, say they have no problem in the "getting it up area" mainly due to this. Again, it's a very interesting  90 minutes.
Good luck.

you are new here, but this has been mentioned

what did you like most about the documentary?
whenever I pass on eating meat,  people ask me, "dont you eat meat?!!?? as if i wont be healthy if I dont eat meat

almost like, if i popped a cigeratte into my mouth and someone exclaimed, "OMG!! YOU SMOKE!"
smoking has serious side effects
not eating meat only  has good ones
but that's not what people have been trained to believe.

I have a book on the subject:  it was actually way ahead of its time and is one of the things I am proud of.  However, it got beat up on Amazon as I wrote it right during the Paleo and Low Carb boons.  At the time, the vast majority of guys did now want to hear that plants were good for nitric oxide and erections and saturated fat the opposite.  Now I see guys finally coming around:  I think everyone is admitting that the only meat they can realistically afford is the factory farm version, which is just nasty from every possible standpoint one can come up with.
