Testosterone level drops throughout the day
« on: April 17, 2017, 05:44:41 am »
Hey guys,

I have been lurking in these forums for a while.

I am 23 years old considering TRT for low testosterone symptoms despite living a very testosterone boosting lifestyle i.e. Lift weights, take D3 and good diet etc. Fasted in the morning my levels are 600 and free t is about 20 (pgml?) but after a meal in the morning my levels are typically 420-440. Does this seem like a rather big drop? I feel like if levels drop throughout the day by the evening my levels could be very low, especially for my age. I feel like I get worse symptoms at night. Big ones I feel are restlessness , anxiety and massive sexual issues (libido, ED).

My other hormones are in check (can't remember them exactly).

My main question is do you think this drop is a big after eating? I have tried clomid but it has not helped.

Any input is much appreciated :)

Thanks

Man, sometimes I feel just about any activity will lower T.  It's like we are a flawed design.

Prolactin --> 5.1 (4-15.2)
Estradiol --> 11.42/24.06 (7.02-49.06)

Started taking clomid September 2016.  Tested Oct 5 and November 30:

Total T --> 649/502 (249-836)
Free T --> 149/123 (30-150)
SHBG --> 26/21 (10-57)
LH --> 7.7/7.3 (1.7-8.6)

I doubt lower fat, lower calorie, lower glycemic have nearly the impact.  In fact, I believe the studies on fat and glucose have shown this.  Check this out:

Here is the glucose study:

And then there's the very basic fact about your diurnal cycle and your hormones.

Question, on the days you noticed a drop, did you take two blood tests on the same day? Like one before breakfast and one right after?
Testosterone: 150ng/dL (ref. 348-1197)
Free Test: 6.7pg/mL (ref. 8.7-25.1)
SHBG: 26.3nmol/L (ref. 16.5-55.9)
TSH: 2.260uIU/mL (ref. 0.450-4.500)
T3 Free: 3.1pg/mL (ref. 2.0-4.4)
T4: 1.34ng/dL (ref. 0.82-1.77)

04/28/2017:
prolactin: 15.9 (ref. 4.0-15.2 ng/mL)
LH: 2.6 (ref. 1.7-8.6 mIU/mL)
FSH: 2.2 (ref. 1.5-12.4 mIU/mL)

Symptoms of fatigue, weight gain, brain fog and low libido. Started clomid 25mg ED on 05/19/2017

Not on the same day, but I had had 2 tests before breakfast which were the same at about 600 and 2 after breakfast which one was 415 and the other 440 (I think). All at between 8/9am

In an effort to gather information, what do you typically eat for breakfast? Eggs, toast, cereal, bacon? Do you drink anything? Water, OJ, tea, coffee? Any supplements you take along with breakfast?

On those tests just oats cooked with water mixed with a scoop of whey protein and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Didn't consumer anything else incase it would interfere with the test

I think carbohydrates could be potentially cause issues. 1/2 cup of oatmeal has have 31 grams of carbs which spikes your insulin response. The insulin spike can negatively affect testosterone and it's worse if you are slightly insulin resistant. With the infomation you have given me so far, the carb thing is the only idea that I have that could cause that much of a drop in testosterone over such a short amount of time.

So hopefully someone else chimes in and can either tell me I'm full of crap or can support my theory. If you are insulin resistant, a couple of things you can try is to just eat fewer carbs for breakfast. Try eggs and bacon for example and see if that tanks you T as much.

You can also try a couple of supplements that help with insulin sensitivity. The top ones I've heard of are Cinnamon, Chromium picolinate and Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA). If your problem is not insulin related, then I'm stumped.

Notice that that is not table sugar.  Table sugar is only half glucose after the body breaks it down.
