Coming off TRT then coming back on while in military
« on: June 14, 2018, 01:52:41 pm »
Hello,

I've been in delayed enlistment for the better part of a year now and started TRT with Royal Medical Center about 6 months ago. I've been taking 1 cc of Testosterone cypionate (2) 500 IU of HCG and aromotase inhibitor. Through lifestyle and diet intervention I was able to get a natural level of 428, however I'm 26 and between 24-25 my test levels fluctuated around the 250-300s. I believe I've had low T since my late teens and with TRT my mood, energy, and vitality have all improved. However, morning erections and libido are still MIA. The military doesn't know about the low T or TRT and I ship out for officer training school in September so I was planning on weening myself off before then and resuming treatment once I get to tech school.

I asked some military forum members a while back for some advice and they all more of less advised of the aforementioned plan. I'm currently looking for some input on other methods to regain sex drive, boners, all that good stuff either through medications or alternative healthcare. I was also curious if tossing Clomid into the mix could potentially help. Taking generic viagra seems to help with sexual function. If there are any Defy military members that could provide input it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the time and advice.

I have no idea of how much test you are on because you are list volume and not mgs, 100-200 mg vials at 1cc could be 100 or 200mg. You can't act upon anything without proper labs, most doctors have no idea what labs to run.

How often and how much AI are you taking?

How often are you injecting test?

What is your SHBG level?

You can't know if the TRT protocol is right for you unless you have SHBG measured.

Don't forget about the thyroid, let's start with a full set of labs.

Rather than being "in the mix," low doses of Clomid can be a primary therapy, sometimes accompanied by an AI. I'd view Clomid as a preferred first choice for younger guys. It doesn't work for everyone, but it's a simpler protocol and keeps your system working more naturally.

Mindscape is right to suggest more detailed testing. You don't want to overlook any treatable underlying condition. Here are some ideas: http://www.peaktestosterone.com/Testosterone_Tests.aspx

Age: 56, Ht: 5'10", Wt: 154 lbs
Protocol: 18 mg T cyptionate subQ qod, 250 IU hCG subQ qod, 6.25 mg DHEA orally bid, 7.5 mg preg. orally qd
5/2017 test results: TT: 800 ng/dL (348-1197), FT: 16 pg/mL (7.2-24), E2: 50 pg/mL sensitive (8.0-35.0), DHEA-S: 278 ug/dL (71.6-375.4)

very good points brought up I should have been more thorough.

Initial labs consisted of Estradiol, CBC With Differential/Platelet, TSH Rfx on Abnormal to Free T4, Prostate Specific Ag Serum, Testosterone Serum,- Comp. Metabolic Panel. Labs indicated everything was apparently within normal levels serum test was 428.

After a few months of treatment, the same aforementioned lab tests repeated indicated everything was normal except AST(SGOT) was high at 44 IU/L and total test was high at 1235 ng/dL.

I asked the doctor why SBHG and free test wasn't measured and he said I didn't fit the profile of a patient who would need those tests. also asked if libido would return and he said just give it more time.

In terms of meds I'm injecting test cypionate with anastrozole infused (if I'm reading the bottle right the units are 200mg/.5mg/ml) injecting 1ml once a week along with HCG 1000IU/100MG mixed with 5ml of bacteriostatic water 2x a week.

Thanks for all the input so far. After doing research & reading myers' books I've been thinking about switching TRT clinics.

Another tip is to avoid anastrozole until you're sure you need it, via symptoms and testing. Many guys don't need it, and others are pretty sensitive, so having it premixed with testosterone is much too inflexible.

TSH only is not sufficient. And you didnt give the result. Other than to assume it was “normal” (which by the way means almost nothing!) because there was no free T4 value which would only be tested if TSH was outside the useless “normal” range.

Have you already “passed” the military physical exam(s)?  If not, it would seem to me that messing with medications and hormones so close before going into the military just doesn’t seem like the best idea. Just my opinion.
51 year old, 5’-7” and 165 lbs.
exercise:swim 3x/wk & marrial arts 2x/wk

Last labs (2/14/18)
Total = 370 (220-813) ng/ dL=43.4% of range
Free T= 7.74 (5.6-21) ng/dL =13.9%
SHBG= 31.1 (10.0-57.0) =44.9%
Bio-avail= 181 (131-682) =9.1%
DHES =231 (38-313) =45.5%
Estradiol = 41 (0-56) =73.2%

Currently on 50mcg Synthroid (T4)
TSH = 0.632
Free T4 = 1.07  ( 0.78-2.19) =20.6 % of range
Free T3 = 4.25 (2.77-5.27) = 59.2 % of range

Past protocol: Boron total failure. Did NOTHING to any levels, or even slightly worsened TT, FreeT and raised E2. All very minimally after 3 months.

Current protocol: (began 4/13/18) 100mg DIM once per day. Re-test early June (6wks)

Just be aware that anything that makes you non-deployable is a one way ticket out of the military. Of course, that depends on what branch you join, your MOS, and the attitude of your command. Seriously, you need to open up to your recruiter about this.

You DO NOT want to be weening off in basic training. Be open, be honest, and allow your recruiter to give you proper guidance.

You can play if you want to, but if you get caught up in being dishonest to the recruiter, even withholding information, they will boot you so fast your head will spin. That may seem harsh and to the point, but you're going in the military, so you may as well get used to it.

Good luck.
