Title: New HRT Clinic $199/month ?
Post by: Sam on April 16, 2013, 03:28:10 am
Came across this site on my searches today.   No idea if they are good or not but certainly fall within the category of price pressure is driving down the cost discussion we have had ont he board recently.

Posting for other reference.

Yes, this was very interesting.  They actually advertised on my site for a bit.  If anyone finds anything about them, let me know.

The sales director insisted they were physician run and also used PA's I believe.  The pharmaceuticals were handled by mail using in-state pharmacies, which he said was perfectly legal.

I have no current affiliation with them, but it was interesting to learn about:  this and Safeway entering the market shows how costs for the "Trifecta Protocol" are only headed downward.

Very interesting!

I'm in the south bay area (CA) and work with a guy who wants to look into this.  He has a rental property up in Sacramento (about 75 minute drive from south bay) which is where one of their locations is.  He might be checking it out.  I'll let you all know if he does.  He seems pretty interested.  He's tired of hearing how great I feel on my HRT  ;) and his total T level tested at Kaiser was about what mine was before, mid 300's

And this ties back with what I was saying here:

HRT sells itself to low T guys if well-managed.  Yes, there are occasional sides even with proper management, such as acne for example.  But these are pretty rare and most of the worse sides, I am convinced, are from elevated estradiol that is not controlled.

I signed up with them a couple of weeks back.  They do not have a doctor in my area yet, so they are flying me in to a region where they do have a doctor and reimbursing me for up to 300.00 of travel expenses.  I'm seeing the doctor next week.   I signed up over the phone, had paperwork to get my bloodwork done the next day and set up the doctor visit soon after.  Oh - and as soon as they have a doctor in my area, I will be transferred from the remote doctor to the local person.

I got fed up with the local folks out here who have no clue on a balanced TRT program.  I'm using more and more of the T cream and not seeing an increase in T, but my e2 keeps rising and my nuts keep shrinking.

The lowtestosterone.com folks seem pretty knowledgable and are quite active on a couple of other boards, plus they started their own forum.

If y'all are interested, I'll report back after my appointment.

Sure.  Let us know how it goes.  These guys look like big enough players that I put it in the primary board here.

Also, you should read Samson's post regarding some risk that may be associated with the topicals for general knowledge if you haven't already:

In reference to a prior post, while I think this company has a lot to offer I think it is important to note that they are really focused on serving those interested in TRT.     I Do not believe they are testing for thyroid or adrenal function prior to assessing if you qualify for TRT, so if you are someone who is confident that your only issue is low T they could be a good option but if you are concerned about adrenal or thyroid you may want to talk to them and think about what is best for you.

I have talked to other HRT companies that are more expensive and part of their initial test panel and assessment includes adrenal and thyroid function.  I think this is good due diligence.  As peak would say eyes wide open...

So I spent the day yesterday flying and going to the clinic.  The doctor called me the day before and spent at least an hour on the phone with me going over medical history, looking at my test results and taking notes.  The day of the appointment was almost anticlimactic.  I had a quick physical exam, we went over all my responses from the day before and signed some paperwork.  The doc then gave me an opportunity to ask questions and then gave me a proposed treatment plan.  I have some followup labs and other stuff to take care of before starting.

I left with a high confidence factor that they know what they are doing and will work with me to keep a well tuned plan.

Great feedback,   Di you get the sense that the Dr. they sent you to could have helped you with more complex hormonal issues if needed.  i.e. adrenal and thyroid issues, Clomid HCG vs. Test Cyp?

She seemed quite knowledgeable about general hormone related issues, and it would not surprise me if she would be able to address other areas.  I think that one would have to explore the boundary between the lowtestosterone.com client relationship and other services that the member doctor can provide and how the two relate.  It seems like their program is a trifecta of good TRT professionals (both the specialists as well as the local doctors), comprehensive testing and meds/supplies.  Not sure if one would get the benefit of all 3 if one went off the beaten path with them.

Did they show you how to self inject?

No - but I've got a couple of followup steps and another set of labs before anything gets prescribed.  I expect that we'll have that discussion when stuff gets prescribed.  If not, I'll definitely be asking as I'm a wimp when it comes to needles  ;)

Thank you for the update.
Could you tell me if itís $199 a month, pay as you go, or do you have to sign some yearlong contract.
Does anyone know how this price compares to other TRT clinics?

It is 199/month + a 15.00 prescription fee for each prescription.  This is with a 1 year commitment.  They amortize the cost of doctor visits, blood work, prescriotions, etc. over the year, so they'd be losing if they let people opt out after a couple of months.

I think people whose insurance covers trt gets better deal, but they have to find an in-network doc and have to deal with insurance bs like if you are one point over the lab min range you are not eligible, etc.  can't really comment on other services as we ave almost none out here.

Good info  I thought the $199 covered everything.   I wonder if it is $15 for each medication, i.e. Testosterone, HCG, Anastrozole?

Also, I was told that if after the initial consultation and tests you decided you did not want to pursue their services they would charge you for 3months (minimum), that is if your blood tests show you qualify.  If your blood tests show you do not qualify they refund your money.

Additional question,   How many follow up visits/consultations do you get with this?   How does the quality of the consultations compare to what we saw from BodyLogicMD where you pay $495 for the 1st and $295 for the follow up consultations.   Think the costs associated with BodyLogicMD where roughly $2500 but all ok don't think this included HCG or anastrozole.  I've consistently seen the cost for these programs to be about $3000 annually.

Yeah, the 15.00 is per prescription, so if 1 vial of T lasts you 3 months, then it is 15.00 every 3 months when you refill, etc.  I was not aware of the cancellation policy - I admit that it is not something that I was too concerned with at the time.  I was mainly focused on finding someone with experience who would work with me.

As an aside, my local doctor is in-network and my health insurance would pay for all my labs and doctor visits per the standard policy.  I was paying for meds out of pocket, so about 100.00 every 3 months for cream.  While the financials are important to me, quality of care is more important...hence I am paying for everything myself since I get to pick the team I work with.

You get in-person visits every 6 months, and pretty much unlimited phone and email support both with your local doctor as well as the headquarters folks.  I have not interacted with the headquarters specialists directly, but I have been following their online postings and they really seem to have a clue.  My "local" doctor has called me directly, emailed and texted.  I have not had this level of personal interaction with a physician ever.

I can't comment on BodyLogic, since I have no direct personal experience with them.

Hey guys!  I also wanted to add an interesting perk you get with LowTestosterone.com.  Besides the $300 airfare credit offered, clients are automatically put into the "Referral Program" and after you refer 4 people to join the program, you get 1 year Free Treatment.  There is no limit to how many free years you can earn, so if you send 8 or 12 you would receive 2-3 years worth of treatment free.

FYI, the only reason there is a commitment at all is due to all of the money financed up front by the company.  $300 airfare, Doctor's fee, Medication, Syringes, Shipping, Blood Testing, and the 24/7 Medical Support line that is included in the program adds up fast and this deters people from taking advantage of the program.

Also, if you do not qualify for the program, 100% of your money is refunded and nothing is owed.  When you add it all up, I would say it is a pretty great deal... but then again, I am a little bias! lol

I wanted to give an update and give thanks for this forum for helping us fine tune our business model.

I have reduced the obligation of our clients to only 3 months.  Clients can now be released from the program for any reason with a 90 day written notice.  Thanks again for the information on these other companies!

It's nice to see a company that's willing to engage men struggling with these issues in an open forum and hopefully an indication that the treatments available to men are becoming more transparent allowing for the right treatment at the right time.

Ultimately making us healthier and if important to you better fathers, husbands, employees and maximizing our contributions to society.   hormone issues do effect all of these things in men.

With that said,  I think one of the challenges you face is does Testosterone supplementation really fix everything?  As you can see from my story and the writings of many members on this board there is a desire especially among younger men to fix what's broken or maximize natural production first.   I almost think someone should come up with a flow chart diagram for this that would guid men through the process from symptoms through tests, possible medical conditions and treatment options.  Including things like varicocele's, adrenal health, thyroid health, sleep apnea, obesity etc etc.

Just another quick update.  I received my medications and supplies last night from their pharmacy.  Did my first self injection today.  Really excited by how smooth the process has gone so far.

Great!  (If you have time, let us know how the self-injections went.  I don't think we've ever had a good thread on that...)

I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this clinic?  Raym are you still satisfied with them?

Thanks in advance for your response.
