Title: Varicocele and Body Temp
Post by: Sam on May 04, 2013, 04:25:36 am
So I was contemplating on how my average body temp went from an unstable but consistent 97.4ish to a steady 98.6 within a week of my varicocele procedure and it got me wondering if the body would down regulated your body temp if a varicocele was causing your gonads to operated at too high of a temperature.    If so this could be a way for men to tell if they have a varicocele that is impacting testicular function.

No proof just a hypothesis.

Interesting hypothesis.  Or perhaps it is some poorly understood HPA connection?

I looked and just do not see a study on this.  There may be one, but I don't see it of course.  It wouldn't surprise me if they hadn't studied it, though, considering they usually only look at the most directly affected variables due to the expense of most studies.

Same here,

Found several studies looking at scrotal temperature but not many that correlate back to body temp.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8795412

This one comes close however,   they are looking at the comparison between scrotal temperature and thigh temperature using thermal imaging.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22191852

Maybe it was just a coincidence in my case.

Your temperature also varies by race. They always think I have a fever when I go to the doctor here in Japan because my body temperature is higher than that of Japanese people. So a variation of 1.4 degrees isn't really that big of a deal.

Is your temp still stable if you don't mind me asking, i.e. has it reset permanently at 98.6 as far as you can tell?

As far as I can tell yes.  The other variable could be my improved adrenal health and maybe the timing was just a coincidence.

No, that's great.  Very impressive imo.  I know that that is a disputed issue, but, like you, it seems awful coincidental...
