Title: Citrulline, Arginine, Cialis + Doxazosin = Cured Erectile Dysfunction?
Post by: Bigjohn on November 13, 2013, 07:09:20 pm
I wanted to post my experience so far on my new experiment. For the last 2 weeks I've been exploring a way to get my erections back to where they were a couple of years ago. I'm a healty 66 year old guy on TRT for 5 months. Although the T has helped with my libido it has not much in the erection area. 4 days a go I started on a regimen of 5,000 MG of a combination Citruline and Arginine twice a day, I take the powder form. I then take Daily Cialis twice a day 2.5 mg each time along with 1mg of Doxazosin which is an Alpha Blocker. My doctor put me on daily Cialis 60 days ago and it helped but maybe 7 out of 10 on the scale. This morning it was 10 out of 10. I've also noticed that I get spontaneous erections throughout the day also. I will update this post regularly to see if this is a longer term fix.

Thanks for the info.  Any side effects with the Doxazosin?

Congrats on doing better.  You can guess what I'm going to say, though, try to get the dosages on the pharmaceuticals as low as possible.  But, again, congrats on getting back in the game.

One thing you should note, of course, is that the solutions helping you are all blood flow related.  That means you can probably benefit by trying to clear out your arteries some way:

Zero side effects at this point. I am on an Ace inhibitor for blood pressure and I am going to back off of that a little because the Doxazosin along with the Cialis lowers blood pressure.

Well, good luck and let us know how it goes and if it continues...

WoundedLion:  I don't think you should "go crazy" with this stuff in terms of dosage and number of supplements.  If your issue was endothelial, you should notice at least some improvement.  Sounds like you have something else going on.  Well, you could have some serious arteriosclerosis - it's certainly possible.

But I have an important suggestion:

1) You should test your NO levels.  Imo you should get those test strips and see if the above is giving you a nice boost in NO, which it should.  If your NO is elevated, then you probably need to look elsewhere:

a) Dopamine
b) Low/high estradiol
c) An alpha blocker
d) Venous leakage

Thanks for the encouragement wounded lion. I'm using a mixture of arginine and citrulline I buy on Amazon. It's not cheap but it works. The dosage of the Doxazosin is 1 MG. As an update I am having no side effects and the erections are a 10 out of 10 just about anytime I want. My blood pressure is back to normal and I'm peeing better because of the Dox. I know this is probably not for everyone and you may have to experiment on dosage but I would talk to my doctor about trying if you think it would help. My doctor had no problem prescribing the Doxazosin and it's pretty cheap (Generic) about $8 for 30 day supply. I've also read how the Dox may work w/o the Cialis. I would give that a try first.

WoundedLion,

Your situation sounds similar to mine and we're close in age so perhaps my experience will help you.  I begin to notice ED problems a few years ago which prompted me to get on HRT.   I'll skip the details of the HRT, as it's not relevant for this thread, other than to say that it didn't help the ED.  It certainly had other benefits (strength, well-being, libido) but improving erections/sensitivity was not among them.  To make a long story short, I struggled with ED up until I discovered Dr. Life's book "The Life Plan" which prompted me to try a daily protocol of Arginine and Pycnogenol (A&P).  After a couple weeks the improvement was like night and day.  I can't say enough good things about this combo, it literally changed my life.  All ED problems went away, sensitivity improved, it was like I was in my early twenties again.  I've tried Cialis and Viagra and think A&P works better.  Reason being Cialis and Viagra gave me headaches and didn't help much with sensitivity.  The downside of A&P is it must be taken daily. As far as negative side effects, PeakT has done some good research and found a few risks - in particular related to herpes type 1 and 2.  From my personal experience, I've noticed no negative effects. I get a rare cold sore every couple years and thus far I have not had a breakout or experienced any negative side effect while taking Arginine.  So in my personal opinion, the research regarding the risks of Arginine is inconclusive and overblown.   http://www.peaktestosterone.com/Herpes_Arginine.  Keep in mind Arginine is a natural amino acid and found in food.  Granted, the dosage to treat ED is much larger than one will find in their diet, but nonetheless it is something we eat everyday with or without supplements.

My daily dosage consists 60 mg of Pycnogenol X2 a day (once in the AM and once in the PM).  I take 5 grams of Arginine in the morning and 5 grams at night.  However, honestly I don't think one needs to take this much Arginine.  I used to take 2-3 grams in the morning only and felt the same benefits.  Somewhere I got sold on the GH releasing effects of Arginine and decided to try more, thus far I'm not convinced and will likely reduce my dose back to 5 grams once in the AM.  Why 5 grams?  well, because that's the size of scooper that came with the container.

As far as product choices, I use [] Arginine and NOW Pycnogenol.  These ingredients are pretty generic so pick whatever brands you prefer.

Anyway, if your current regime (Citrulline Mallate powder form +lots of beetroot juice +pomegranate juice) doesn't deliver I highly recommend you give A&P a try.  It works well for me.

Oh, one other comment.  ED is considered the canary in the coal mine for heart disease.  If you haven't done so, I would strongly recommend you take steps to reduce your risk for heart disease; i.e. reduce blood pressure to 120/80 or better, lower your total cholesterol to less than 150, LDL Cholesterol to less than 80.  PeakT goes into great detail on this topic elsewhere so search this site and PeakT's other posts for further details.  Good luck!

Fit, this is good news. I will try to adding the Pycnogenol to my protocol. How long did it take for you to notice it working? Are you taking the Arginine powder that mixes with water?

BigJohn, for me it took about a week before I noticed any improvements.  To be conservative, I think one will see improvements about 2 weeks after starting a daily protocol.

I take the Arginine power.  Reason being - swallowing 5 grams worth in pills is just too much for me.  I recommend buying one of the more expensive Japanese-grade ultra-pure forms.  Although all arginine products are probably the same in potency, you're going to want one that completely dissolves in water.  Arginine tastes awful so the easier you can make it go down the better.

Regarding Pycnogenol, quite possible it is the real catalyst for ED improvement.  I say this because I used to take Arginine by itself for the workout pumps and never noticed any improvement in my ED.  I can't say for certain because I didn't take it every day.  Not sure if Pycnogenol would work without Arginine put perhaps it's worth experimenting.  For me, I'll take the approach "if it's not broke don't fix it", A&P together seem to work for me so I'm not messing with it.

I recommend you take the Arginine on an empty stomach, or at the very least without protein.  Reason being, I've read that it will bind with the amino acids in protein thus diminishing its intended effect.  I take it first thing in the morning and right before bed. Pycnogoenol doesn't matter when you take it.

Hope my comments help.  Good luck!

I've been taking Citrulline 1.5g twice daily for the past two weeks and haven't noticed any improvement.  However, I've been taking my morning dosage with my protein shake so maybe that has something to do with it.  I'll try taking on an empty stomach and see if I get results that way.

I'm hoping the Pycnogenol will replace the Doxazosin I'm taking with my daily Cialis. It's more expensive than the Dox but at least it's not a drug. I'll update later also.

Some of the higher Icariin extracts can work fairly well.

kregger had some great comments on Pycnogenol and how it worked for him but he felt the Arginine may have caused him issues.  I split it to here:

L-arginine and pycnogenal are the two active ingredients in Prelox.  I've tried Prelox, and after a few weeks I notice benefits, particularly in pleasure of orgasm.    (The manufacturers claim the two ingredients work synergistically.)  But it tends to give me a headache, at least in combination with trazodone it does.

I've read the encouraging research of doxazosin too, and I've been on 2mg a day for some time.  But I can't detect any erection-enhancing effect.

Citrulline, which I've been on for a few weeks, seems to have given me no noticeable benefits either.
