Title: Zinc Kills Libido
Post by: cb122 on May 09, 2014, 04:58:06 pm
Can you think of any reason why 50mg of zinc absolutely kills my libido i read it should do the opposite. Any theory? Copper deficiency.... low estrogen?

Quick question:  are you a pretty big meat eater?  If you are, you might not be doing so bad on zinc.  I take one RDA of zinc, but I'm almost entirely a plant-eater and pretty sexually active and so I think an RDA is a good idea.

Studies on rats have shown that even doubling the rda of zinc (rda for humans is 15mg) can cause metabolic syndrome,  elevated insulin etc. And also taking too much puts copper levels out of whack. Copper is needed for leutenizing hormone. Gotta wonder if the "zma" many athletes take to boost their test levels actually causes the opposite.

I'd love to see the study for that if you can locate it.

No problem Peak. The actual studies are mentioned in the footnotes, I haven't read them but got the info from the article.
