This well strength and conditioning specialist goes into a couple of recent studies that mess with the street wisdom that you can't do cardio and strength at the same time.  Look at the photos of the cyclists at the bottom of the article, and it will make you a believer!

LOL.  For me it not whether doing both is more effective or not.  For me it is that I am not motivated enough to do both.

LOL.  For me it not whether doing both is more effective or not.  For me it is that I am not motivated enough to do both.

Well, that's interesting.  It's kind of strange, but I'm actually the opposite:  it would never cross my mind to just do one or the other.  I can't live w/o trying to keep some muscle mass (for a Skinny Bastard anyway) and, likewise, guys that lift weight 3-4 X per week and feel that that is all the exercise they need just doesn't make sense to me either.  So for me it's always been mandatory to do both.

Well A) it still comes down to calories, so if you can eat enough to gain muscle, and do cardio... then do it.

B) Neither of those 2 cyclists has any upper body mass to speak of, but they do have massive legs haha :)

A) good point

B) yeah but look at the upper body of a gymnast.

B) yeah but look at the upper body of a gymnast.

True but gymnast are genetic freaks, they also focus on high intensity cardio, not things like marathons etc.

Yeah, I knew you were gonna say that.  There is no real equivalent on the upper body.  I guess a mechanic's forearms are pretty close.
