Regulus - thanks buddy! - mentioned this in another thread, but I felt it was so important I wanted to highlight it.  Lectins in plants, per quite a bit of research, are powerful anti-cancer agents.  In fact, they uniquely target cancer cells and will leave non-cancerous cells alone:

I am mentioning it, because lectins are being criticized now.  This reminds me a lot of the anti-phytic acid craze a couple years ago.  That died out.  Why?  Because phytic acid is a also a powerful anti-cancer agent.

I have a theory that generally - not saying always - the guys who succeed with TRT do the following:

a) Have a solid TRT protocol

b) Look at all hormones (or close)

c) Incorporate critical lifestyle changes.

d) May throw in a few supplements if needed

To support that, I have interviewed a few of the guys that I know swear by TRT to see just what they are doing.

The first interview is that of JustAskin, who many of you know by his stickied thread at the top of the forum.  Check out what he says and keep in mind he's in his late 60's and going strong.  Not bad, eh?

Looks like I may be a bit too serious in my anti-aging effort.  This article has lots of interesting facts about centennarians, one of which is how many of them smoked and/or drank!  I guess I shouldn't be too surprised:  the Tarahumara reportedly are party animals and pretty stout drinkers.  Maybe I need to lighten up a little.  ;D

Arizona passed medical marijuana laws a few years ago, which I am in favor of by the way, and we now have an explosion of billboards and clinics in the Phoenix area.  It's clearly very popular and growing rapidly.  This is happening, as we all know, in many states.  Canada is even farther ahead in this area, etc. 

However, I haven't seen a good summary of the risks in regular use out there.  Marijuana has had some very serious brain and cardiovascular issues raised up in the research and so I created a page with a summary of the research.  I also noted where some of the preliminary negative research was overturned.

And to be clear:  I am totally pro-legalization.  Why we waste time and money regulating and enforcing marijuana laws is just not in my DNA. And I also think it is a huge mistake to limit use to CBD oil for both researchers and interested individuals.

Some guys like this kind of stuff and some don't.  But I definitely have some health goals for 2018 and here they are:

A1C between 5.0 and 5.2  (currently 5.4)
Fasting glucose <= 85 (currently 87)
Meet Gould's lipid requirements
LDL-P <= 1000
Pass a Spectracell micronutrient test successfully (never done)
4 pack
3 day water fast every six months or some form of intermittent fasting

I've got a few more but that's good for starters.  Anyone else?

This is a super interesting article from many standpoints.  First of all, I have read two schools of though in the research about apnea.  One is based on physical changes:  increased adipose tissue in the neck, increased connective/muscle tissue in the neck and throat area, aging of neck-related tissues, etc.  The second school of thought it that it is primarily CNS related.  This study definitely adds a lot of weight to the latter's argument as you will see:

"A synthetic cannabis-like drug in a pill was safe and effective in treating obstructive sleep apnea in the first large multi-site study of a drug for apnea funded by the National Institutes of Health. The study was conducted at Northwestern Medicine and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

There is currently no drug treatment for sleep apnea, a sleep breathing disorder affecting about 30 million individuals in the United States. In sleep apnea, breathing is interrupted, and these pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes and may occur 30 times or more an hour. Untreated apnea raises the risk of heart disease, diabetes, sleepiness, cognitive impairment and a motor vehicle accident."

In the study, 73 adult patients with moderate or severe sleep apnea were divided into three groups. One group was given a low dose of the drug, a second group received a higher dose and the third, a placebo. Participants took the drug once daily before bed for six weeks.

Six weeks of treatment by the highest dose of dronabinol (10 milligrams) was associated with a lower frequency of apneas or hypopneas (overly shallow breathing) during sleep, decreased subjective sleepiness and greater overall treatment satisfaction compared to the placebo group. The severity of their disorder was reduced by 33 percent compared to complete compliance with the mechanical treatment, although complete compliance for the night is rare.

So now the question is if this will be safe long term?

I have long had what I considered to be hypothyroid symptoms.  For example, the outer part of my eyebrows are missing and I've had extremely dry hands for so long I can't remember otherwise.  I also used to always be freezing when I was younger, etc.

Supplementing with selenium helped with feeling cold.  Now I am trying a drop of Lugol's solution in order to grow my eyebrows back.  Just kidding!  No, I want to see if I can get rid of these dry hands with the iodine.  That may seem a bit weird, but I also had a lab read that was a bit hypothyroid. 

I am putting one drop of Lugol's solution on my wrist every day and I can report that my hands appear to be less dry after about a week.  So we will see how it goes . It I get a miracle cure, I'll report back here.

As the number of people being diagnosed with dementia and other debilitating brain diseases is projected to grow steadily in the coming decades, doctors and researchers are not only looking for effective treatments, but also for ways to promote general brain health. As it turns out, one way to slow brain aging may not be that different from what works for our general physical health: eating salad.

Scientists at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago monitored the diet of 960 elderly people. They discovered that participants who ate up to 1.3 servings of leafy vegetables a day performed better in tests designed to understand how the brain ages than their peers who ate no salad at all. The volunteers were in their early 80s and received a regular “food frequency questionnaire” between 2004 and 2013, along with two cognitive assessments.


Although the researchers could not identify a causal link between vegetable consumption and slower brain aging, they think nutrients like lutein, folate, beta carotene, and phylloquinone — naturally present in leafy greens — may play a part.

The correlation is quite striking, however. Over 10 years of follow-up, people who ate the most salad were found to be on average 11 years younger from a cognitive perspective."
