Update: High Prolactin; Hypothyroid; Low Vitamin D; Pretty Low Testosterone

I haven't posted in a while.  I will give a summary of my situation. Two years ago i was diagnosed with high prolactin of 162. I had symptoms of low energy and no sex drive. They did a mri of pituitary and didn't really see anything. They put me on cabergoline to lower my prolactin and i was on it for a while. My testosterone was also low in the 300 range. I'm in my late twenties so i figured this to be low.  The cabergoline didn't help much. I was on it for 14 months. I was able to regain my erections but the sensitivity wasn't great.  I was not to thrilled about my progress.  I didn't seem the pills were doing much for me.  I still felt tired and carried alot of body fat.  I never had this much body fat in my entire life which is very odd to me.  When i went to the urologists office like a year ago they tested my fsh and told me my testicles were failing due to my high fsh and they couldn't do anything about it.  My lh is in the normal range so go figure.  I was also told i have hashimotos. low vitamin d. and low dhea.   I also have slow bowel movements.  I think my situation was either caused by a tetanus vaccine or antibiotics i took. After i took them i experienced my rapid decline in health two days later. I lost alot of weight mysteriously the next two weeks. My body just shut down and i couldn't eat. I lost around 20 pounds in two weeks. I didn't know what the hell was going on with me so i went to the ER to find out.  They ran some tests and told me i'm fine. For months afterwards my arm was sore were my doctor injected the vaccine.  Doctors told me its not possible and its in my head.   

Fast forward today.  Here is where i stand  i've been off the cabergoline for about 3 maybe 4 months.  I went to a new endocrinologist. She is a nice lady.  I told her my situation and she wanted to run all my pituitary test hormones to see if any other hormones are affected.  She also wants me to do an mri with contrast which i am dreading.  I don't see the relevance in it since the last test they didn't see anything. Maybe so the hospital can make more money?

Do you guys think the acth hormone is high enough to give me problems?  Can the elevated prolactin still be causing me issues? I know its not super high.  I read an article that says high prolactin leads to obesity.  I still have crap energy.  My libido is not great. I am able to get erections and have intercourse. My sensitivity is not good.  My endo says my testosterone is fine.  I don't think it is for someone my age.  I asked if i should go back on the cabergoline and she said she will decide after my mri.   So yeah thats where i stand.  I mean i don't feel like complete crap which is a plus, but i don't feel 100 percent optimal.   Like my body is being held back.  I'm just wondering which is the right step. i'm taking vitamin d daily.  Should i be taking pills for my thyroid? My dads tsh and my friend checked thiers and it is at 1.7.  Mine is really sluggish compared to theirs.  Is that contributing as well?

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Hey, a few things:

--I have told this story before.  One of my sons had a vaccine and the next day he woke up and was completely paralyzed.  He was a toddler and could not move.  His eyes were open and he was looking around but his limbs, body and head were completely immobilized.  I took care from what I remember to make sure that he did not get Thimersol in his vaccine.  My understanding was that single use did not have Thimersol and multiuse did.  So we requested single use.  What caused it?  A weird immunological reaction?  I don't know.  But it was one of the scarier things in my life.  He eventually came out of it about a half day later and seems as healthy as a horse now. 

--Your prolactin is still pretty high which means that your dopamine is likely on the low side.

--You look very hypothyroid.  No one has talked to you about this?  Are you having classic hypothyroid symptoms?  High prolactin and hypothyroidism often go together, so I'm not sure why there is not discussion there:

Thanks for the response PeakT.  Wow that is a scary story about your son. I'm glad everything is okay now with him. I wish i could go back in time and never get that vaccine. 

 I'm thinking i'm going to take thyroid medication to help my thyroid.  Maybe that will give me a boost.
What about this ACTH level.  it is a bit high. Is it high enough where i should be concerned? Anyone know much about this.

Also maybe i should bite the bullet and get back on this cabergoline medication.  On the plus side my prolactin isn't  going any higher, but it still isn't in the normal range.  So what should i do. Can slightly elevated prolactin cause issues?

Also PeakT do you think my t levels are still on the low side for my age.  I did my test in the morning. 

I also wonder what caused my fsh to skyrocket like it did.  It destroyed my sperm count.

I think i do have hypothyroid symptoms. The slow metabolism. Constipation. fatigue.

Also i plan on getting this mri done for the last time.  If they do find any sign of a small tumor i'm considering surgery to get it removed.
I would rather deal with surgery than pills forever to be honest with you.

Also - since you have been away, there are a lot of us using defy medical for their treatment.  They really know their stuff and will be able to point you in the right direction a lot quicker than an endo.  Defy wasn't as popular the last time you were posting, but they are really big now.

They should be able to help with the thyroid as well.

Yeah, testosterone is on the low side, but keep in mind that being hypothyroid can pull down T:

And correcting it can pull up T.  I would definitely find a good doc that knows thyroid hormones and get some answers. 

Yes, that prolactin could be lowering your libido and testosterone a little.  Some docs don't worry about prolactin in the 15-30 range though.  Cabergoline has lots of sides, so I think that's why they sit on things.

I'm hoping my thyroid is dragging my t down peakT.   I mean for gods sakes my dads tsh is at 1.4 or something.  Im at a 6.3.  I mean come on.  My friends who is my age also has the same tsh as my dad so that has to be causing issues for me right?

Certainly could be a contributing factor.  Defy will likely look more into T3 and RT3 than tsh.

Yea give them a call, tbh finding a good endo is a shot in the dark and could waste more time.

Thats crazy that you say you haven't seen a tsh as high as mine. Every doc always tells me my thyroid is mildly underactive.  Kinda like its no big deal.  THanks for that eye opener. i'm going to get that taken care of soon with defy. 

Whats crazy is yesterday i was looking over some blood work of this one lady friend asking me advice.   Her TSH level was 0.20   i couldn't believe it. She feels great. This just opens my eyes that my level needs to be corrected asap.

Donkey: I was wondering if you had a semen analysis with those numbers, namely the FSH of 20.2 & Prolactin of  23. I imagine those two bloodwork parameters are going to affect fertility the most. However, I do remember you posting your story last year and things seemed to have improved naturally to some extent. Wasn't the Prolactin some number like 150+ back then? Even those 23 is still high you seem to be moving in the right direction.

I had a semen analysis done a while ago.  Had to be more than a year ago.  I put 12 tubes of sperm in storage.  At the time my fsh was at like 14 And my prolactin was At 14 or something.  They barely found any sperm at that time they only found a few. They had to use a special machine to find whatever I had left.  I can only imagine my sperm is probably worst as my fsh is at 20 now.  The urologist at the time told me their was nothing they can do and that my testicles are failing due to the high fsh.

Yes my prolactin was at 167.  I guess it's gotten slightly better.  I'm positive at the time the elevated prolactin had some effect on my mind and behavior as I was behaving in a way which was uncharacteristic of me.  Over time I guess my brain regained control and now I'm thinking like my old self.

But still I'm not happy I have a lot of body fat which I never had before, my stomach is very slow digestion.  My energy is still crap.

So I have to this mri again which I dread and most likely the endo will put me on cabergoline to lower my prolactin.  Then I will get back on some thyroid meds when I call defy.  Have them retest my t levels and do whatever they tell me to do from there.

My sensitivity is not good.  My endo says my testosterone is fine.  I don't think it is for someone my age.  I asked if i should go back on the cabergoline and she said she will decide after my mri.   So yeah thats where i stand.  I mean i don't feel like complete crap which is a plus, but i don't feel 100 percent optimal.   Like my body is being held back.  I'm just wondering which is the right step. i'm taking vitamin d daily.  Should i be taking pills for my thyroid? My dads tsh and my friend checked thiers and it is at 1.7.  Mine is really sluggish compared to theirs.  Is that contributing as well?

Donkey: I was wondering if you had a semen analysis with those numbers, namely the FSH of 20.2 & Prolactin of  23. I imagine those two bloodwork parameters are going to affect fertility the most. However, I do remember you posting your story last year and things seemed to have improved naturally to some extent. Wasn't the Prolactin some number like 150+ back then? Even those 23 is still high you seem to be moving in the right direction.

I had a semen analysis done a while ago.  Had to be more than a year ago.  I put 12 tubes of sperm in storage.  At the time my fsh was at like 14 And my prolactin was At 14 or something.  They barely found any sperm at that time they only found a few. They had to use a special machine to find whatever I had left.  I can only imagine my sperm is probably worst as my fsh is at 20 now.  The urologist at the time told me their was nothing they can do and that my testicles are failing due to the high fsh.

Yes my prolactin was at 167.  I guess it's gotten slightly better.  I'm positive at the time the elevated prolactin had some effect on my mind and behavior as I was behaving in a way which was uncharacteristic of me.  Over time I guess my brain regained control and now I'm thinking like my old self.

But still I'm not happy I have a lot of body fat which I never had before, my stomach is very slow digestion.  My energy is still crap.

So I have to this mri again which I dread and most likely the endo will put me on cabergoline to lower my prolactin.  Then I will get back on some thyroid meds when I call defy.  Have them retest my t levels and do whatever they tell me to do from there.
