Progesterone and DHT
« on: March 15, 2017, 09:07:52 am »
It is well known that Progesterone inhibits 5 alpha-reductase thus lowering DHT but is the converse also true? Does DHT effect progesterone in any way?

Effects of sex steroids on skin 5 alpha-reductase activity in vitro.

So once again it's dose dependent.

Yeah, but it has been widely talked about on the steroid forums.  Example:

And, if you really want to understand the underlying pathways of progesterone, check out Dr. Mariano's usual off the cuff but encyclopedic summary of the subject:

I have seen progesterone cream marketed as a hair loss treatment, which seems like a problem waiting to happen.  Even the guys on here who like progesterone, seem to have a narrow range for where they feel good with it.
Age: 36
178 lbs 5'8''

Current Treatment: 50 mg testosterone cypionate IM, twice a week
Low T Symptoms: Chronic pelvic pain, and other neuropathic pain.  Mild anxiety, low energy and low motivation
Meds: Amitriptyline (for pain, not depression), Clonidine (for sleep, not blood pressure)

It's just like with any other hormone, you need the right amount. And according to what Mariano says prog could be like supplementing with preg, you don't really know which path it's gonna take until you try it. Luckily for me it brings my cortisol up where it should be and gives me back morning wood, not real strong but at least it's there. On the other hand preg seems to go straight to e with me. Once again we are all highly individual.
