Best way to test Boron
« on: May 22, 2017, 12:19:49 am »
Hi,
Does anyone know what is the best way to test Boron?
I am looking at my Hair and Urine test (both from Dr. Data) and the information is contradictory.
On the hair test my boron is 8.3 which is very High (normal range is 0.40 -3.0)  , yet on the urine test it shows as 0.92 (normal range is 0.4 - 3.5)
This is confusing... how can boron be so high on the hair but on the low side on the urine test?
Does anyone have any information as far as what is the best way to test and interpret result for Boron?
Thanks so much,
Peyt

Hair testing in general should be considered suspect: Kempson review article.

I don't know about urine testing for boron.

There are several sources that say hair testing is extremely accurate, then there are sources that say it is unreliable.

In a Dr Data hair test (I used this once), they want you to only use the first inch closest to the scalp, as it reflects the most recent timeframe.  They say the hair test is only accurate if the sample was not washed before testing.  I don't know if Doctors Data washes the hair or not.

...

It can be very accurate and useless at the same time. For most things being tested there's no easy way to find what the accurately-measured value means regarding the subject's health. There are too many sources of contamination and too much variation between individuals to make such judgments. Even the water with which you wash your hair can influence the results. These tests do have some use when applied to larger populations.

Hair testing is just one tool in the toolbox.  What does the Dr.'s Data report say?  They put whether or not it is considered reliable, possible sources of contamination and things you should look into and consider.  I haven't had an issue with Boron, so I've never gotten that report back.

If you are on medications or have a medical condition, always check with your doctor first before making any lifestyle changes or taking new supplements.  And low testosterone is a medical condition.
