Life Extension Foundation Support

LOL.

Ok,  I just got off of the phone with a MD at Life Extension.  This guy was great.

If course they try and encourage you to use their products but its not a hard sell at all.   Hespent 30mins on the phone with me reviewing my bloodwork and making reccomendtions.  He was a little concerned about my PSA and asked me to get a DHT test done to see where that is at and had some good thoughts on SHBG and the like.

In the end, he basically said call back anytime and if you want fax over your other blood work and I would be happy to review it with you.

Ummm...   thats pretty fantastic service for me spending $108.00 on blood tests.

LEF is great overall.  Very good articles and pretty high quality phone support.  My only complain with them is that will never, as far as I can tell, print a downside to their supplements.

But, anyway, that's a great story!  I didn't know they had that available...

Re: DHEA and Hormone Advice

For what it is worth, he provided me what they feel are the proper targets for certain hormones

Total T 700-900 and up to 1100 in some cases
Free T 20-25
DHEA-S  350-490  - He suggest I take 50mg in the  morning on an empty stomach with my level of 171
Estradiol  20-30  - He suggested my level of 17 was just slightly low, but increasing my testosterone dosage and frequency along with some conversion from DHEA would help with that, but to monitor it appropriately.
SHBG 30-40  He agreed mine was low but felt it would adjust to amore normal range once I balance my other hormones

He suggested I take another look at thyroid hormones and get the Free T3, T4 into the upper 3rd of the normal range, TSH between 1.0-2.0 since Thyroid and Adrenals will also effect SHBG.

He suggested Saw Palmetto for my PSA.  I'll have to research that a bit more.

Don't fool around with Saw Palmetto. You're playing Russian Roulette with that stuff. I would get the DHT, test, however. I'm living proof that you can have high DHT 74 (25-75ng/dl) & free DHT 7.16 (1.0-6.2pg/ml) while having a good PSA level 1.1. Even 1.7 is OK.

From what I understand (and there are studies to support this), transdermal DHEA allows for more benefits than encapsulated oral DHEA, as most of the DHEA benefits get processed out through the liver when ingested orally. Plus, it is converted to the Sulfate form of DHEA. I believe there could be a more anabolic, testosterone boosting effect with transdermal (as long as Estrogen conversion is monitored). I am at a poor DHEA-S level myself 144 mcg/dl, but I believe my body has a long way to go to recover naturally from adrenal stress and am planning to avoid supplementation until giving myself 3-6 months to improve it naturally.
Recovering from adrenal fatigue through Paleo diet+exercise+vitamins/supplements; formerly used HCG & Clomid at various dosages

This link talks about causes for elevated PSA.

http://prostatecancer.about.com/od/symptomsanddiagnosis/a/psacauses.htm

I heard bout the ejaculation thing before so abstained for about 24hours on that, but the day before I rode like 15miles on my bike.

I think before my next test, I will abstain from both for 72hours or so.

Thanks Davie for your comments.  I'll  research the transdermal DHEA a bit also.
