How I Got My Morning Erections Back
« on: August 22, 2013, 12:38:14 am »
Yes that is what I'm saying. They all work a little by themselves, but all three together, 3 times a day, wow!
Here is what I take:
518 mg Korean red ginseng (powdered root) 3x day
Pycnogenol 50 mg 3x day
Tribulus 500 mg (whole plant extract) 60% saponins 3x day
To anyone who may want to use red ginseng liquid extract, watch the alcohol content. I tried 2000mg/day liquid and my ED got considerably worse. Turns out that some of the liquids have been termed alcoholic beverages by the ATF because of their alcohol content.

What about lifestyle changes?  Any modifications to sleep, exercise, diet or weight loss that might be contributing as well?

Have started exercising some. Do pilates with my wife in the morning (don't laugh. Google exercises for ED. Yoga comes up a lot!) Walk about 3 miles 4 days a week. But didn't notice any major changes til I started taking these supps 3x day. Even 2x day was not a dramatic change in things. I guess I just hit on the right supps and the right dosage. I do feel better about myself and I have dropped about 5 lbs. Not that I'm overweight. I weigh about 165 and am 6 ft tall. I'm just some out of shape.

All I can say is nice work.  Those particular supplements are pretty pretty common and regarded as generally safe.  Of course, you have to do your own due diligence and discuss with your doc if appropriate.  Now you're probably scared to do this, but you may want to chop one of them out of your routine and just see if it makes any difference.  It could be that only a couple of them are doing 90% of the work.

Exercise definitely will boost nitric oxide for several hours afterward.  But there are a 100 reasons to exercise as much as you can (without overtraining) that have nothing to do with exercise.  Example:  exercise will make you more smarterer.  That's right - the testosterone boost from exercise in the brain can actually create neurogenesis per an animal study.  Helping you sleep better is another.  Holding weight down is another.

Now, as far as yoga, it is excellent for a couple dozen fantastic reasons.  It will build your core; decrease stress hormones; decrease anxiety; on and on the list goes.  Have you seen my page on this?

I outline why you need to get your woman into yoga - it's pay off big dividends for you in the bedroom - and much of it applies to guys as well.

Now my wife hasn't gotten me to a yoga class yet.  But I want to go.  She has taught me some of the postures at home though and I'm sure I'll go with her sometime soon...

Actually, I don't need to drop one of them out as I started on them one at a time. I've seen the difference in what they each do and what has happened as I've increased the dosages one at a time. I learned a long time ago the value of doing one supp at a time.

Ok, here goes, I'm not sure which one does the most. I started on them one at a time and saw moderate results from all three. It was when I combined them that things really started happening. I know from research that Tribulus is sketchy at best. Form what I understand, it will only help if you need help, which is why most of the studies show no improvement, because most of the studies have been done using healthy young men. As far as my background: my problem is different than most guys here. I had a prolactinoma. I'm not a very good poster so I don't know how to post the link, I have another post called "prolactinoma experience" on one of the other boards. But, I started going into ED when I was in my late 30's. About that time I also started having headaches 24/7. But because I'm a migraineur my Dr.'s didn't look any further. So I spent a few years on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds, and lots of pain meds. When I was 42 after a nerve racking honeymoon with my second wife, my Dr. put me on Viagra without an exam of any kind. Said it was my age. Well, it worked, but with consequences.  Always get a migraine when I use it. So, for years I've been searching for a better solution. I am now 55 years old. Had my surgery to remove my tumor about 2 years ago. Have been on test. injections ever since. My Urologist actually found my tumor after Androgel quit working and decided to test my Prolactin level, which was way high. So I still use Viagra, but the supps listed above make things work alot better. As I said, I've not had a morning woodie for about 20 years, until now!

As a side note, (just thought about this ), I do have a fair amount of testicular atrophy going on because I was so low Testosterone for so many years. I found that using Progesterone cream stopped the atrophy. You can find more about this by googleing men and progesterone. Lot's of research done by the late DR. Lee. Anyway, when I started the red ginseng, I noticed my balls were firming up. They used to be mushy and hanging low all the time. Now, after a bottle and a half of tribulus, they are actually putting on weight! (getting bigger), and they are moving up down like they did when they were working!

Have you tried Grape Seed Extract in the place of Pycnogenol?  They have the same active ingredients, but Grape Seed Extract is less expensive.  I have never used Pycnogenol but I have used Grape Seed Extract off and on for years.  Unfortunately, I have not done any controlled experiments with it and ED effects.
Age 40
5'8" 145lbs

*Cured my intermittent ED which started at ~35 years old by adding in nitrate-containing foods DAILY (arugula, beets, romaine, spinach) and drinking occasional POM juice. Interestingly, I have seen no changes in cholesterol/LDL/HDL or any other typical blood parameters.

Yes, they have kind of the same class of phytochemicals, but of course Pycnogenol is pine bark extract.  Pycnogenol is pretty good at ramping up NO for many men and I have not seen anyone report the same with Grape Seed Extract.  (Combine it with a little Citrulline - after talking to your doc - for synergistic effects.)

Pycnogenol can lowers one's dopamine levels which ostensibly would mean a less pleasurable climax or tactile sensitivity.

Perhaps supplementing with Tyrosine would be a good counter-balance to this?

Re Pycnogenol lowering dopamine: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2007-09/frb-nsp091207.php

You're probably right but not necessarily.  It may just modulate the catecholamines (dopamine and noradrenaline) rather than carte blanche lower them in all individuals.  If so, this is not uncommon.  An example of this is testosterone dampening overreaction of the adrenals to ACTH.  See study #3 here for an example:

http://www.peaktestosterone.com/Testosterone_Adrenal

So it may be that it helps those who have an issue here.

But great post and this is yet another example as to how herbs are 1) suprisingly powerful and 2) can effect each man individually.

Btw, I am going to post this as a caution on my Pycnogenol pages sometime soon.
