Isn't resistance training just like HiTT
« on: October 23, 2013, 09:37:35 am »
I wore my heart rate monitor to the gym the other day and noticed that while doing shoulder presses, during exertion my heart rate would go up to about 160 and then come back down to 120.   With a 60sec rest period between sets isn't this similar to what a cardio based HiTT program would accomplish.

What are you trying to accomplish with HIIT? Fat loss? Muscle hypertrophy? Muscle preservation?

HIIT is good for fat loss, preserving muscle while in a deficit, overall conditioning but you can't build muscle and increase strength with just HIIT. Resistance training with progressive overload is the only way to do that.
