Iodine on the Scrotum to Boost Testosterone and Libido?
« on: September 24, 2013, 07:27:36 pm »
OK no done this but on cure zone. com they have a group that has been painting iodine on there scrotum, yep scrotum and they swear by it for libido and T levels. Now I have to say that there iodine information on that site along with links is very intriguing.

Supposedly 20mg a day(building up to it) is optimum and iscloe to what the Okinawa people consume.

Any thoughts on this?

Can someone explain why they have to paint their scrotum?  This is sounding a bit tribal to me...

In animals they just gave them potassium iodide and it work fine to boost testosterone and fertility:

"Benha Vet.Med.J., Vol.15, No.2, Dec.2004 9
The Effect Iodine Supplement on the Sexual Activity
And Semen Characteristics of Friesian Bulls"

But then maybe they just couldn't get any volunteers to paint bull nuts?  ;D

Lol I also was confused. I would think orally would work just fine but transdermal Mag does work effectively  but yes not sure "nut" painting would insure the iodine would go directly to the testes and prostate.......then again?? ??? ???

I'm thinking that a lot of guys will get a decent T boost just from the nut tickling.

Btw, some men (with thyroid issues, past thyroid disease, etc.) will end up hyperthyroid from taking extra iodine.  This will do the above...

Okay, this got me intrigued and I did a page on it:

http://www.peaktestosterone.com/Testosterone_Iodine

Basically, from all I see, you are risk goiter and/or rising TSH (hypothyroism) by taking in more than a couple of milligrams per day and many folks trying this are taking 10 X that.

It kind of reminds me of when everyone found that Vitamin D can give a little bump to testosterone and then men started taking huge doses of Vitamin D.  Again, you want to stay physiological imo...

I can confirm rising TSH from my oral iodine supplementation (potassium iodide 1-2mg per day).  It did not raise my levels of T3 & T4 though, which was unexpected.
Age 40

*Cured my intermittent ED which started at ~35 years old by adding in nitrate-containing foods DAILY (arugula, beets, romaine, spinach) and drinking occasional POM juice. Interestingly, I have seen no changes in cholesterol/LDL/HDL or any other typical blood parameters.

Do you remember how much it raised your TSH and from what to what?  I'm wondering if it actually pushed you into the hypothyroid category?

It rose from 0.9 average (8 historical readings dating back to 2003) to 1.9 average (2 post-iodine supplementation readings so far).  My T3/T4 levels did not rise along with TSH, which is probably not a healthy development.

I am seriously considering stopping the iodine supplementation entirely as it has not helped my cold feet issues.  It is possible that I didn't supplement enough selenium with it to make it work, as there is some discussion regarding selenium being necessary if you take supplemental iodine.

As an aside, the maca supplementation seems to have really exacerbated my cold feet issues.  Maca is linked with thyroid effects, so perhaps it is not for me because of that reason.

If you have some links for this, please post them...

I just stopped taking ALA for that reason.  (Very dry skin.)

This study was done in women.  There is no data I can find on maca and thyroid effects in men.

Hormone-Balancing Effect of Pre-Gelatinized Organic Maca (Lepidium peruvianum Chacon): (III) Clinical responses of early-postmenopausal women to Maca in double blind, randomized, Placebo-controlled, crossover configuration, outpatient study.

Abstract
This is the second, conclusive part of the clinical study on clinical responses of early-postmenopausal women to standardized doses of pre-Gelatinized Organic Maca (Maca-GO). Total of 34 Caucasian women volunteers participated in a double-blind, randomized, four months outpatient crossover configuration Trial. After fulfilling the criteria of being early-postmenopausal: blood Estrogen (E2<40 pg/ml) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH>30 IU/ml) at admission, they were randomly allocated to Placebo (P) and Maca-GO (M) treatments (2 groups of 11 participants each). Two 500 mg vegetable hard gel capsules with Maca-GO or Placebo powder were self-administered twice daily with meals (total 2 g/day). At admission and follow-up monthly intervals, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, levels of gonadal, pituitary, thyroid and adrenal hormones, lipids and key minerals were measured. Bone markers were determined after four months M and P use in 12 participants. Menopausal symptoms were assessed according to Greene's Score (GMS) and Kupperman's Index (KMI). Data were analyzed using multivariate technique on blocs of monthly. Results and canonical variate technique was applied to GMS and KMI matrices.  Two months application of Maca-GO stimulated (P<0.05) production of E2, suppressed (P<0.05) blood FSH, Thyroid (T3) and Adrenocorticotropic hormones, Cortisol, and BMI, increased (P<0.05) low density lipoproteins, blood Iron and alleviated (P<0.001) menopausal symptoms. Maca-GO noticeably increased bone density markers. In conclusion, Maca-GO applied to early-postmenopausal women (i) acted as a toner of hormonal processes along the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Ovarian axis, (ii) balanced hormone levels and (iii) relieved symptoms of menopausal discomfort, (hot flushes and night sweating in particular), thus, (iv) exhibited a distinctive function peculiar to adaptogens, providing an alternative non-hormonal plant option to reduce dependence on hormone therapy programs (HRT).

It is theorized that fluorine, bromine (added to flour) and chlorine end up among other places in the testicles and that iodine would displace them, hence the application to the scrotal area and not an oral mode of administration.
You have to question even your deepest convictions from time to time.
