Testosterone levels for 28 yr old.
« on: October 28, 2013, 11:32:30 am »
I've been reading a couple of posts where testosterone levels around 300 or lower are like an old man but is that across the board? what's the ideal level of testosterone for a man? i'm almost 29.

i'm not sure I know what influences testosterone levels either? What makes them go up and down?

i'll be getting one more testosterone result in the next few weeks but these are my results over the last couple of years.
i figured this is ok since it's in the normal range or is it seeming not crash hot? I'm not worried about the past obviously but hoping my next result will be better though symptoms tell me otherwise.

2011
Testosterone 14.4 (lab reference range 12-31.0 nmol/L)
Free testosterone 265.58 (lab reference range 260-740 nmol/L)

2012
Testosterone 19.4 (lab reference range 12-31.0 nmol/L)
Free testosterone 437.94 (lab reference range 260-740 nmol/L)

Many, many things lower and raise testosterone.  It's really tough to answer all the things that can do it.  T-Power posted a link but go here and poke around a bit:

http://www.peaktestosterone.com/Hdr_Testosterone

The biggees that will affect your testosterone the most imo are probably weight gain, pituitary/hypothalamic issues, depression, accelerated aging from a Western lifestyle, varicoceles, Vitamin d deficiency, hypothyroidism, lack of sexual intercourse and  sleep disorders and sleep deprivation.  But look around as I'm sure I forgot something important!

If you are on medications or have a medical condition, always check with your doctor first before making any lifestyle changes or taking new supplements.  And low testosterone is a medical condition.

No big thing, but I think you have your total T and Free T numbers backwards.
Age: 52

The total looks reasonable since it's in nmol/l.  However, the free doesn't make sense to me...

He probably means 0.439 nmol/l.

You're right.  That would be 2.2%.

Thanks all.sorry thats pmol/L not nmol/L forfree  testosterone
 So 3-400 odd is ok?

I figure it's normal but sex drive,  arousal,  erections are all sooo lousy.
Like osullivan I always notice men in their 40s 50s and 60s wit more stamina and strength than I do.not to mention hearing their sex life is frequent . It's frustrating.
In any case I'll b doing that blood test soon so I'll follow up with the doctor cos it may yet be thyroid related in my case.

Nope, the pmol makes sense.  Basically, usually free T is between 1.5-2.5% of total T normally.

And the thyroid affects many, many systems as you can well imagine.
