does zinc increase or lower DHT?
« on: January 27, 2014, 12:24:19 pm »
Hi guys, I recently quit heavy drinking, I have had a low libido for quite awhile, the past few weeks I have been taking a zinc supplement but now my libido is zero!

I read that zinc can lower DHT, DHT is important for the libido, does zinc lower DHT?

Most folks who take zinc supplements above the RDA are taking it to for its purported anti-estrogenic properties. Now that may influence how much DHT is produced as your body is always trying to maintain hormonal balance.

My advise, I would follow the Peak T Testosterone Diet as your main approach, food is medicine. Then if you aren't exercising regularly, start.

Slow and steady building good habits. That is how you win at this game, there is no magic bullet.

Believe it or nit, there is a study that'shows it can raise or lower depending on the level given, ie sounds tricky.  Will try to dug that up...

I did a little more research and there is a study out there on infertile men that shows it increases DHT:

Interestingly enough, testosterone only increased in the lower T group.

And, if you are int'd in raising your testosterone, don't forget that creatine will probably do that for you as well.

Thanks peakT, I guess I should keep taking the zinc supplement then, thanks.

I always recommend monitoring to make sure your supplementation is doing what you think it is doing...

Unfortunately I find it very difficult test zinc levels etc, so I do tend to go by if I notice any differences, but I think sticking to the RDA is beneficial to health anyway.

Well, I meant monitoring DHT before and after.

Have you tried the zinc taste test kits?

Yeah I know you meant hormones etc, but as you said any testing is independently done, not through local doctor's offices, its a pain. I haven't tested for zinc levels, but I have got symptoms of low zinc, low libido, very thin hair, stretch marks, acne etc. I have noticed one thing though, since starting the zinc I haven't be ill, everyone around me has, normally January for me is spent dealing with cold after cold, nice benefit to have!

Gotcha.  Well, this doesn't directly apply to the above, but saliva testing is pretty convenient.

I didn't even know such a test existed! Is it accurate compared to blood tests? I'm in the UK so I will have to do some research, it sounds so easy! Thanks.

Someone said, I think, that ZRT worked with the UK.  The thing with saliva testing is that it is the free form of the hormone.

Thanks I'll look into it.

This has a U.K. lab in it.  Anything you find out about decent U.K. labs, please let me know...
