« on: February 25, 2014, 06:37:37 pm »

i wrote last year about how oxycontin gave me severe secondary hypogonadism even after a few pills. after a few months i saw an endo who put me on 25 mg of clomid for 9 months, it helped somewhat, but hcg works great, erections and sex drive back x10

Hey, long time no see.  Glad all is well.  Supposedly, HCG stimulates pregnenalone - I saw a study that contradicted this - and so you could be getting a brain boost from this type of therapy.  And that may tie into some secondary effects from the oxycontin issues?  (Of course, testosterone/estradiol will give you a brain boost too if in range.)

Anyway, glad you're up and around.  Can you post your protocol/dosage/frequency and let us know what happened with your testosterone and estradiol if you have those #s?  (And if you are on Arimidex or an AI?)

Also, I can't remember:  did you try traditional HRT?

The testicles hold the most responsibility for metabolizing Cholesterol into Pregnenolone. It stands to reason that stimulating the testicles with hCG would increase pregnenolone levels.  It's been shown to have anxiolytic and mood boosting effects.  Makes sense since Preg is an neuroactive steroid.

It upregulates the enzyme that converts chol to pregnenalone.

That tends to happen with clomid.  Opiates can cause low T with a lot of use so that's something to watch for.

Those are really good questions.  I would figure it's because not enough men report it and it just gets written off or ignored.  There definitely needs to be more research on pain management and reducing the side effects of meds for pain.

first initial one was 2000 iu (we dissolved the 10 thousand IU puck with only half the bacteriostatic water , 5ml)

every 3 days i do 1000 iu, its really strong, way better than clomid

the last 2 doses will be 500 iu each, as my friend directed and endrocrinoligist concured today

apparently here in canada clomid is the favourite because its backed up by half a century of research, hcg isn't well studied for secondary hypogonadism

Yeah, it works. I was using it up to the end of 2013. It is especially effective if you manage the estrogen. Now taking a break from it, as I was concerned about shutting off the pituitary LH indefinitely. Does your doctor consider it a short/medium-term treatment or does he want you to use it indefinitely (ie. like years)?

Also, there is a big difference between 500 and 1000iu...actually a world of difference...it can make the difference between a strong erection and a somewhat weak one. If you adjust the doses over time, you may not need 1000iu as you can block the estrogen from metabolizing which should also improve your testosterone. But it takes some trial and error I found.

But, if I remember right Davie, you would not categorize HCG as a "godsend," right?  It's been somewhat lackluster in efficacy for your, right?  Or am I making that up?
