2013-2014
Blood Pressure Average (20 readings total)
Systolic = 125 (pre-hypertension)
Diastolic = 77 (healthy)

03/20/2014
started Kyolic Aged Garlic (2 capsules once daily, 600mg)

04/05/2014
started Pycnogenol (75-150mg per day, Trader Joes brand)

Blood Pressure Average (since starting Kyolic & Pynogenol together - 15 readings)
Systolic = 116 (healthy)
Diastolic = 73 (healthy)

In the last week my blood pressure numbers have been stellar (113/71 average), even after eating a Mexican enchilada plate dinner (113/68), and also after eating a loaded 5 Guys hamburger (114/69).

I can't say for sure if Garlic or Pycnogenol was better but the numbers started dropping after 1 week on Pycnogenol so I am leaning toward that being the main reason.  My blood pressure is now back to optimal health levels, even after I eat an "unhealthy" meal.  The other thing I have noticed is that my heart rate has dropped from 67 beats per minute average to 58 beats per minute average.  My eating and exercise have remained the same the entire time, so they are not the reason for these changes.  My stress levels have remained mostly high as well.

I am about to run out of Pycnogenol so I will discontinue it for a month (but remain with Kyolic Aged Garlic) and see how the blood pressure numbers change (basically see if they rise again without Pycnogenol).

*Cured my intermittent ED which started at ~35 years old by adding in nitrate-containing foods DAILY (arugula, beets, romaine, spinach) and drinking occasional POM juice. Interestingly, I have seen no changes in cholesterol/LDL/HDL or any other typical blood parameters.

This is fantastic EH - I ve supplemented Pyc for many years with no results on BP 100 mg 2x day. But never combined with Garlic.

Thanks and Congrats

Thanks TFan.  I'm sure Pycnogenol affects people differently, but hopefully the mixture with garlic will yield results for you.

I must also mention that the only two times during my pre-hypertension blood pressure readings that I actually had super healthy readings were each 1.5 hours after a romaine salad and 1.5 hours after an arugula salad.  Those two meals dramatically dropped my blood pressure following the meal (arugula salad dropped blood pressure a little more than romaine salad), BUT the next day my blood pressure was right back into pre-hypertension.  So Peak's preaching on high nitrate foods makes sense to lower blood pressure immediately.  I would have to try these types of salads once a day for a few weeks to see if the effect persists though, as a single salad only worked for the immediate hours after the meal.

Good stuff guys.  I just started today on 1g Odorless garlic and 500 mg Ester Vitamin C.  (Will probably up that to 1g after a week or so).  I will retest my BP in a couple weeks to see if there is an effect.  My averages have been 130-140/80-90 during the day, and lower in the evening.  Continuing with POM and Citrulline.

Let us know.  The results should be faster than 2 weeks I would think, so give us an update before then i fyou think of it.

Bringing up this old thread because I am experiencing at least some of the Kyolic + Vitamin C effect described.  In a recent thread we've been talking about garlic for CVD, benefits of which are not entirely clear, but garlic for blood pressure is more well established.

Three weeks ago I finally acknowledged that my blood pressure had become a problem after several months of upward creeps in the 130's, then 140's, and finally two readings of 150/100.  I started on Kylolic and Vitamin C as described, then ten days ago started taking Lisinopril 10mg daily.  Today (10am) my bp was 102/78, a difference of -48/-22.  This is too low for me; I may be having symptoms of low blood pressure (incredibly tired, trouble getting out of bed, some dizziness) so will back off.

Can't pin it on only garlic + Vit. C.  Confounders include:  Incomplete BP readings (should be taking daily, not), multiple supplements (Lisinopril, Kyolic, Vit. C, L-Citrulline), diet adjustments (daily NO boosting salads, near-daily beets, POM juice, lowering fat), and more exercise.

I could never get the downward bump from the garlic and the Vitamin C.  (I wasn't taking the pycnogenol).  It was finally 20 mg Lisinopril that got me down from 140 to 120 again...  Those are probably all good supplements however.
