Uh oh. Did Clomid Give Me Floaters?
« on: December 11, 2014, 12:54:17 pm »
[MODERATOR SPLIT FROM HERE: http://www.peaktestosterone.com/forum/index.php?topic=5021.0.]

I got put onto Clomid (25mg every other day) but after only a week I am getting eye floaters. I'm concerned at what this stuff is doing to my eyes. I'm going to come off the Clomid and speak to my doc.

What are your thoughts on this?

Androxal is coming out later in the year. Perhaps I will have a better response to that.

I've just read that it can cause floaters.  Now why some believe that occurs, I don't know - never read a good explanation.  But better safe than sorry when it comes to your sight, eh?

Optical Specialist immediately !! Re: Uh oh. Did Clomid Give Me Floaters?

Hi Mr. SumTingWong,

I cannot emphasize this too much, so

GET THEE TO AM OPTOMETRIST or OPHTHAMOLOGIST IMMEDIATELY !!!

Get a complete work-up, including dilation and retinal scan. Have them check for retinal field vasculature occlusions,

Have an air-puff ocular pressure test done.

If the doctor can image the optical nerve cup, do so. Have them snap an image and maintain in your records for future comparison.

My lover and companion is a technician specialist at a very good Optometrical doctor. He is also a good friend of mine.
I hear horror stories all the time of irreversible deterioration of the patient's eye sight, which could have been treated
if the patient had gotten to them in time.

Floaters are a first sign something is WRONG, as it is something floating in the vitreous humor mostly, sometimes in the
aqueous humor of the cornea and lens structure.

Whatever the floater is, it should not be there, and something is shedding cells into the humors.

Please Please get your eyes checked ASAP !!!

Keep us posted as to your eye exam results.

Best regards, Sam D.

PS. I have been on total HRT (testosterone pellets) for over four years now, and have never had eye problems.

Great point SamD:  a burst of floaters can be a sign of retinal detachment so it's good to get it checked.

This is a huge concern of mine as I've used Clomid a couple of times in the past. All I ever experienced was very brief floaters on 2 occasions (brief being defined as lasting like 10-15 minutes and completely going away). Keep in mind this was using a 50mg dose, although I've never used such a large amount since that 1st time. Cutting the pill into quarters and making approx 12.5mg doses, there were no side effects except thickened ejaculate, symptoms of higher estrogen, etc. However, no other non-sexual type symptoms. I've read here and there that the location of the pituitary near the eye socket has something to do with it. I imagine stimulating any gland or tissue adjacent to the eye will have some repercussions.

Floater happen to most people once the material is loose in the eye. It is not uncommon at all and is in fact something you will get as you age. However a bunch of them all at once should be looked at. I can't conceive how Clomid can produce floaters but will take to my doc next time I see her.
Anything is possible but a good eye exam will help to determine is typical release or problem issue because of floaters

I had my eye examination - a very thorough one. She said that my eyes are in good health, however, she did think it was likely that the Clomid caused my floaters.

Did she say why?

And did she say that she thought that the Clomid did it or the opposite?

No. She didn't offer a lot of information other than to tell me the test results.

She said the Clomid probably did cause the floaters.

Well, I forgot how much research I had done on the subject.  Check these studies out:

I should add that my eyes also were getting increasingly red and sore. Fortunately that disappeared when I discontinued the Clomid. Apparently the floaters are permanent though, but over time they move to the periphery and the brain filters them out.

When I told the pharmacist about it, she looked up Clomid in her book and it did say that floaters are a possible side effect.

I'm going back to the doc in January to see what other treatment options are open to me...
