Jimmy Moore's Cholesterol is 350 and LDL about 280
« on: January 05, 2015, 02:48:40 pm »
This is a interesting article.  Jimmy Moore did a lipid profile and found that he had, by almost any standards, astronomical LDL and cholesterol:

http://livinlavidalowcarb.com/blog/liposciences-nmr-lipoprofile-test-a-revolutionary-more-accurate-lipid-profile-particle-size-screening/6522

If you read the article, he is hoping that his HDL and triglyceride reads will somehow protect him...

Yes, what's very interesting is that he had Dr. Davis on his show I am almost positive.  And, if I remember right, Dr. Davis very gently warned everyone to be cautious of too much saturated fat.

And Dr. Davis is very clear about that in his book as I have mentioned:

http://www.peaktestosterone.com/Review_Track_Your_Plaque_Davis.aspx

What's interesting, also, is that Dr. Davis gives an example of a woman who should eat 24% of fat.  That is not that much above the 15-20% fat levels that the Pritikin Edge currently recommends:

http://www.peaktestosterone.com/Review_Pritikin_Edge.aspx

In any event, it seems risky to me.  I think he's been losing weight for a long time, so that may be protecting him.  Maybe someone knows if he has posted a Heart Scan or IMT results...

I started communicating with Jimmy about 10 years ago and liked his approach to low carb diets but he's become quite arrogant in my opinion. I've tried to listen to his podcasts but anyone who challenges him automatically becomes the enemy. I put no stock into what he says or writes anymore.

You brought back a memory.  Even those who dont like low fat diets generally respect Dean Ornish a nd what he tried to do. His work is respected imo. I felt Jimmy Moore was a bit rough with him.  It did not come across well imo.

Agreed, he's done that with everyone that doesn't agree with him, Dr. McDougal come to mind.

No kidding.  I'll have to listen to that one sometime, although I am sure it will be somewhat painful.

Btw, one thing a lot of these are ignoring is the LDL particle count.  Basically, if you read Track Your Plaque, when that particle count gets up there, it creates a gradient effect and it will push LDL into the arterial wall.  It's just simple chemistry and Gould, Esselstyn and Davis all discuss it.  So I think it's naive to assume that just because you have a good triglyceride read that you are going to somehow be able to overcome that effect, but time will tell...

That's interesting and not disagreeing but I read the Wheat Belly book and all his (William Davis) recent Facebook postings seem to say not to worry about loading up on fats and to specifically make sure to eat the fatty parts of beef.

Anything else to add to that?  High LDL-P is very risky based on multiple studies.  I can't imagine a bright side to that argument.

From what I have read, I got the impression that most people consider Ornish to be a self promoting buffoon.  That his studies don't prove what he says they prove and that he uses shady techniques that call his results into question.  I'm not buying or selling here.  It's just what I have read.  Although, I will say that I certainly respect Ornish more than Jimmy Moore.  The idea of Jimmy Moore giving health and diet advice is hilarious.
