Fertility: You Need Multiple Tests Over Many Weeks

Just a small update.  In preparation for potentially hopping back on TRT, I went and banked some sperm the other day.  Whereas my fertility test a month ago showed a good count, but low motility, this recent exam demonstrated a low count, but very high motility.  Having spoken with the staff about this, they indicated that fertility can vary dramatically from one week to the next, and that getting a solid 'average' can involve numerous tests over the course of weeks if not months.  Good to know for anyone else looking into their fertility in the future - always make sure to get checked out more than once.

Awaiting updated, unmedicated T labs, will post as soon as I receive them.

So did they give you any advise on whether or not to bank when you had higher motility or higher counts given that you had to choose one or the other?  i.e. what will yield the best sperm bank sample?

This is very good to know.  I'm also really concerned with my fertility and last time i checked my sperm count was awful.  The urologist told me i had bad count and mobility.  I am supposed to go get it checked out again very soon so i will let you know how it goes.  I might buy some fertility boost supplements before i get it checked out again. I wonder if those really work

Thanks peakT.  I will try these things.  Also I'm gonna start working out again and see if that helps as well.  I'm thinking my varicole is the main thing messing me up right now as the pain comes and goes.

I asked, and it sounded like, while the ideal (of course) is to have both high motility and high count, the reality is that fertility changes on such a regular basis that the only thing you can really do is try to get multiple samples banked.  At about $600 a pop, and requiring 3-7 days of abstinence beforehand, it would definitely be tough to try to find your ideal time.  What matters is that they are able to get a viable sample, which it sounds like they are usually able to due assuming you are not mostly or completely infertile.
