Here are my 3 favorite:

I'm not currently using the whey as my theory is that it bothers my gut if I use it too long.

If you are removing dairy from your diet should you be worry about whey as it is a product derived from milk?
Also,

Do we know if vegan protein is as effective as whey for muscle building - I mean we have lots of studies on whey showing great muscle building benefits, but do we know vegan protein does the same?

Osprey has a great post on rice protein without arsenic here:

http://www.peaktestosterone.com/forum/index.php?topic=6915.0

(Arsenic is part of cotton pesticides and the rice pulls it up from the soil from past crops in the same field from what I understand.)

Great point Tfan.  I hope to do a page on this soon as I have some great data.  But these are usually about 20-30% less active than an animal counterpart.  However, you can that nearly up 1.0 if you combine, say, rice with beans of course, but you are just asking about the straight protein powder I assume.

Well - powder was my point, but does whey  carry the inflamatory issues milk does?
btw - rice and beans is a good combination, excellent if rice is brown/whole - mexicans and brazilians have known this for a long time - though they eat lots of meat...

I wonder if there would be a benefit to buying the rice protein and the pea protein and combining them?

That is an interesting question!  Make sure I research this a bit.

I did find this:http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/wheys-vegan-alternatives-combining-pea-and-rice-protein.html
looks promising. I think I am going to try it.

How do you eat your pea protein powder? It does not taste great.

I really don't mind the flavor of the one from growing naturals. I just substituted it for the rice protein powder in my smoothie.

I don't eat any dairy, but I have been using animal whey.  Looking forward to your findings on whey Peak.  If plant based whey is comparable for muscle building then maybe I'll switch.

Check this out:

Looks like there was a study where they did just that idea and it worked very well.  Now here is an interesting thing to note though:  I probably don't want to do that.  Why?  Because rice protein is high methionine.  In my case, I want to be a little low in methionine, so I don't jack up IGF-1.  I am trying to go reasonably low on protein - that's a whole different subject - but enough to build muscle.

But, yes, it looks like that will give you a very solid protein.  Now I haven't added up the leucine content of both.  I'll try to do that or maybe one of you guys can to see what you would get.  Whey is pretty high leucine from what I remember, so it would be interesting to see how that strategy stacks up.

Btw, I saw another paper with hemp's low bioavialability, so I need to add that into Hemp Protein page!  Pretty pathetic.  I'm not sure I'll keep buying it after verifying that.

Also, one more comment roadglide:

Another option is simply to consume 20% more of the plant protein.  With the exception of hemp, usually they are only about 20% lower anyway, so just consume a little more.
