Testosterone Lawsuits Against Abbot Labs (AbbVie)
« on: April 24, 2015, 02:02:57 pm »
I thought that attorneys were gathering together class action lawsuits but didn't realize that five cases against Abbot had already been filed back in 2014.  I can't find out what has happened with these cases though:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-02-05/abbott-labs-sued-by-five-men-claiming-androgel-injuries

"The men range in age from 50 to 63, according to their complaints. Three claim they had heart attacks after they started using AndroGel, and a fourth said he had a stroke. The fifth man said he had a mini-stroke.

Abbott and AbbVie “deceived potential AndroGel users by relaying positive information through the press, including testimonials from retired professional athletes” and statistics suggesting a widespread need for the drugs, “while downplaying known adverse and serious health risks,” according to the complaints.

The men accuse Abbott, which marketed the drug from 2010 through 2012, and prescription drugmaker AbbVie of concealing knowledge that AndroGel had a “serious propensity” to harm."

Abbot (AbbVie) manufacture Androgel.

AMAZING!

They were able to three guys 50+ who had heart attacks, one who had a stroke, and one who had a "ministroke"?

If that's the best they can do out of the entire population of Androgel users, I'd say they've got evidence that it's a miracle drug.  Every cardiologist should prescribe it.

The total who have joined the lawsuit is now up to 1,340.

I agree with you as you know.  However, look at this thread:

If it's true that low T and high E2 can lead to incidents, then what men with high T and high E2 as is the case fairly often on HRT.  Well, the studies look good so far, but I think they need to look at this.  I still am shocked that physicians aren't immediately horrified at high estradiol levels.

I have seen a lot of benefit from HRT- but I have noticed a ton of doctors who will throw T at a patient without much knowledge or experience of steroidogenic pathways or without testing their patient on his related metabolites.

It is easy for me to believe that HRT-done-poorly, has the potential for negative consequenses as bad as hormone imbalances that exist prior to HRT.

My HRT doc, who was originally an Internal Medicine MD, recently told me that there was a new Board Certification being established for Functional Medicine.  I'm curious to see if this will ultimately result in a more formalized, best-practices protocol for HRT.

That's great!  But how many docs will subscribe to it?  That's the question...
