Journal Article Recommends 3 mg of Boron Per Day

[MODERATOR SPLIT FROM HERE: http://www.peaktestosterone.com/forum/index.php?topic=2339.0 (Another great boron post btw.)]

@PeakT

Was rereading the Boron page and was inspired to search a bit. Found a new article published August 2015 that others may find interesting as well:

Nothing Boring About Boron
http://imjournal.com/openaccess/pizzorno144.pdf

One nugget is regarding how estimates of boron in food are likely to be overestimated.   Another is that benefits from boron - natural or supplemented - are unlikely at levels below 3mg per day.

Torrential, great find on the boron article. Very well researched and documented. In my own experience of taking 6mg/day (3mg x 2) I have seen a reduction in HS-CRP inflammation marker from 1.0 to .5 down to .25 last time I tested. I have not seen any reduction in SHBG or increase in Free T so far. The increase in Free T is what I was hoping for. Will keep testing.

In the article they used sodium tetraborate which can be had by consuming 20 mule team borax.  I happen to have a box of this stuff.  Does anyone know how to figure out a teaspoon measure of borax?  IE, how many TSP of borax is equal to 3MG?

I love do-it-yourself stuff but it seems like this is something you might want to buy from a quality supplement manufacture. You want to make sure it is good in terms of purity and also dose right?

If you are on medications or have a medical condition, always check with your doctor first before making any lifestyle changes or taking new supplements.  And low testosterone is a medical condition.

That's a good point Peak.  Probably better to spend the extra money on a quality supp if I am going to take the borax.

Actually, many consume 20 Mule Team for this purpose. It's considered pure agricultural grade because there is no approved human food use.

Excuse me for not guessing that something name "Mule Team" was not agracultural grade.   ;D

Oh well I guess we can forgive this oversight!  I just re-read my sources.  20 mule team is 99% pure borax.  The rest can be other artifacts of mining and processing it.  Yes lots of people do consume it.  But I'm thinking Peak is right, better to get a reputable source if I plan on using it long term.

Boron is an anti-inflammatory.  Yes, that huge.

"The present study was designed to evaluate the dose-response relationship of the anti-inflammatory activity of Boron in rat models of induced chronic inflammation compared to that produced by the standard drug Dexamethasone, and to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of its adjuvant use with Dexamethasone.
